From the nostalgic classics to brand new movies and series, there’s something on Disney Plus for children and children-at-heart of all ages to enjoy. There’s always something new to look forward to on the platform. If you need something to look forward to in the new year, here are some new movies and shows coming to Disney Plus in 2022.
Better Nate Than Ever
Based on the book of the same name by Tim Federle, Better Nate Than Ever follows a small boy with big dreams. Nate Foster wants nothing more than to be a famous star on Broadway. After having his heart broken by being cast as a tree in his school play, he teams up with his only friend Libby to run away and travel halfway across the country to New York City to audition for a Disney musical on Broadway. The journey is just as much a fanciful comedy of errors as it is a heartwarming coming-of-age story about following your dreams.
Obi-Wan Kenobi
This new addition to the Star Wars extended universe will follow fan-favorite character Obi-Wan Kenobi’s life on the desert planet of Tatooine between the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope. Ewan McGregor will be reprising his role from the prequel trilogy as the famed Jedi master who is now in hiding after the Jedi order was all but wiped out. This mini-series, planned for six hour-long episodes, will hopefully answer a lot of pressing questions fans have been asking for years.
The Iceage Adventures of Buck Wild
The sixth movie in the Ice Age franchise will follow the adventures of Buck WIld, the zany, roguish, one-eyed weasel who joined the rag-tag band of prehistoric misfits in the third installment, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
Pinocchio
Disney’s quest to reimagine all of their timeless animated classics in live-action brings the stories back to old fans and introduces new generations to these beloved characters. Pinocchio, the story of a living puppet learning to love, will be the latest of such remakes, coming to the streaming platform in Autumn of 2022 and will star critically acclaimed actor Tom Hanks as Geppetto.
Hocus Pocus 2
Nearly twenty years after the Disney Channel Original Movie premiere of the first Hocus Pocus, Hocus Pocus 2 will be available for streaming just in time for Halloween 2022. The famous (or infamous) trio of witches will be played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy.
